Rain Forest in Sarawak State (Malaysia)
This field station is located in the Lambir Hills National Park and surrounding area of Sarawak State, Malaysia. It includes primeval tropical rain forest designated as a national asset and areas of shifting cultivation used by local people. Recently, number of areas under cultivation has decreased because of the development of Miri City based on the petroleum industry, and a consequent change of lifestyle for local people. Number of palm oil plantations has also increased around the station. And the tropical forest ecosystem and biodiversity are both under stress as a result. The field station has accommodation, experimental facilities and tree canopy access offering opportunities for interdisciplinary study.
Canopy access systems, including 80m crane, gondola and Lambir walkway.
